Shepp Ranch Description:
Shepp Ranch, a guest ranch in Idaho, is located deep within mountainous central Idaho, on the banks of the Salmon River, the fabled “River of No Return.” With the nearest road 15 miles away, this area is truly remote, making this location perfect for wilderness adventures with family and friends. All rooms have private baths, and wood-burning stoves or fireplaces. Shepp Ranch is located on the banks of the Salmon River at its confluence with Crooked Creek. The property is surrounded by the Gospel Hump Wilderness on three sides, and the Wild and Scenic Salmon River Corridor on the fourth. Across the river is the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. The nearest accessible town is Riggins, Idaho, approximately 40 miles downstream.
Life at Shepp Ranch is simple and comfortable. You can be as active or lazy as you choose. There is a hot tub overlooking the river where you might catch sight of a bighorn sheep grazing during the day and the stars will shine down on you at night. The sauna is tucked in behind a hedge of bamboo and is a quiet refuge to lean back and feel the worries of the outside world drain away. During the summer the river is warm enough for swimming and playing Frisbee or badminton in its sandy shallows. Coffee machine set ups for your room are available and a cooler of soft drinks can be placed right outside your door. What you won’t find are TVs or phones and computers.
If you have been feeling like you and your loved ones are a little too much “plugged in” this is a place to renew family ties with good conversation, nature walks, and evenings around a campfire. Everyone can go their own way during the day and then regroup at mealtimes to relive their adventures. We have an eclectic library in the lodge with everything from the latest bestseller to 1920’s National Geographic. Lounge chairs are scattered around the ranch to provide the best views in either sun or shade. Board games and decks of cards are available at the lodge and there is almost always a jigsaw puzzle in progress.
Lodge activities include horseback riding, fishing, hiking, photography, jet boating, swimming, horseshoes, volleyball, reading and relaxing. Whatever your interest, Shepp Ranch is perfect for your next outdoor adventure. Not only will you be inspired by the natural surroundings, you will be expertly cared for by long-time managers Mike and Lynn Demerse. Weekends are popular; however, a one night stay is allowed. Guests will be picked up at Vinegar Creek by jetboat around 11 am and returned late Sunday afternoon. This is available from April 1st to Labor Day. During steelhead fishing, March, September, October, and November, there's a 2 night minimum. Bring your sense of adventure, and leave your worries behind. Come relax and enjoy true western hospitality and the wilderness experience.
